Fells was released by the Patriots on Friday, NFL.com reports. Fells was unseated on the depth chart at tight end by Zach Sudfeld and Michael Hoomanawanui. Though he signed a three-year deal prior to the 2012 season, the team still decided to part ways with the veteran. He should warrant interest from teams that are thin on depth at tight end. 2013-08-30 12:51:54 -0400
ESPN.com suggests that Fells is not a lock to make the Patriots' final roster. The report suggests that Jake Ballard will make the cut over Fells. In any case, rookie Zach Sudfeld has emerged as a TE to target from a fantasy perspective, given that he now seems poised to see an expanded role early on, with starter Rob Gronkowski unlikely to be ready in Week 1. 2013-08-21 15:53:03 -0400
Fells finished the 2012 season with four catches for 85 yards in 13 games for the Patriots. Even though both Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez missed time this season, Fells wasn't much of a factor in the team's passing game. That's not likely to change in 2013, assuming he remains with the team. 2013-01-22 11:03:47 -0500
Fells (shin) is active for Sunday's game against the Ravens. Aaron Hernandez's injury opens the door for Fells to see some looks in his Patriots' debut, but Kellen Winslow is in the team's TE mix as well, so a wait-and-see approach is in order here. 2012-09-23 19:08:15 -0400
Fells (shin) is inactive for Sunday's regular season opener at Tennessee, the Patriots' official Twitter page reports. Playing behind fantasy stalwarts Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez leaves very little room for Fells, the Pats' No. 3 tight end, to make a fantasy impact. 2012-09-09 11:35:51 -0400
The Patriots have signed Fells, the Boston Globe reports. Fells gives the Patriots, a team that deploys the TE heavily, an experienced option at the position. While Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez are ahead of him -- and the upside plays in fantasy -- Fells, who had 19 catches for 256 yards with three TDs in 2011 for the Broncos, could merit consideration if either of the aforementioned duo ever goes down with an injury. 2012-03-19 10:46:54 -0400
